Thomas Wilfred was born on June 18, 1889, in Naestved, Denmark. He studied music in Europe, achieving international status as a performer on the lute. He moved to the United States in 1916, and began to develop and perform on the clavilux and promote lumia as an art form. Wilfred died on August 15, 1968 in Nyack, New York.
